Navigating the Admissions Process

We offer distinct pathways for admission to our Pre-University College (High School), Undergraduate programmes, and Postgraduate programmes.

1. Pre-University College (High School) Admissions

Our Pre-University College is designed for students aged (typically) 15-18, preparing them for success at university level.

  • Academic Requirements: Applicants are typically expected to present strong academic records from their current and previous schooling. This includes official transcripts demonstrating proficiency in core subjects relevant to their intended pathway (e.g., mathematics and sciences for a STEM focus; humanities and languages for social sciences).
  • Entrance Assessment: Depending on the applicant’s background and intended programme, an entrance assessment may be required. This could involve tests in key subjects such as English, Mathematics, and analytical reasoning.
  • Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates are usually invited for a personal interview (which can be conducted online for international applicants). This is an opportunity for us to learn more about the applicant’s motivations, interests, and suitability for our rigorous academic environment.
  • Letters of Recommendation: One or two letters of recommendation from current teachers or school counsellors are typically required.
  • Desired Student Profile: We seek students who are intellectually curious, motivated, possess good communication skills, and demonstrate a readiness for a challenging and rewarding pre-university curriculum.

2. Undergraduate Admissions

Admission to our Bachelor’s degree programmes is competitive and based on a comprehensive assessment of each applicant’s qualifications.

  • Academic Qualifications: Applicants must hold a recognised secondary school leaving qualification, such as the Swiss Matura, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, British A-Levels, German Abitur, French Baccalauréat, US High School Diploma with AP exams, or equivalent national qualifications. Specific subject prerequisites and minimum grade requirements may apply depending on the chosen programme (e.g., strong mathematics and physics grades for BEng Computational Science & Engineering).
  • English Language Proficiency: As all programmes are taught in English, applicants whose first language is not English, or who have not completed their secondary education in English, must provide evidence of English language proficiency. Accepted tests typically include IELTS (Academic) with an overall score of 6.5 or above (with no less than 6.0 in any component), or TOEFL iBT with an overall score of 90 or above (with minimum scores in each section).
  • Personal Statement/Essay: A compelling personal statement or essay is a crucial part of the application. This should articulate the applicant’s reasons for choosing UBQ and their specific programme, their academic and career aspirations, relevant experiences, and what they would contribute to our university community.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Typically, two academic letters of recommendation are required from teachers who know the applicant well.
  • Application Process: Applications are submitted through our online portal, including all required documentation, by the specified deadlines.

3. Postgraduate Admissions

Our Master’s and Doctoral programmes attract high-calibre candidates committed to advanced scholarship and research.

  • Academic Requirements: For Master’s programmes, applicants must hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognised university with a strong academic record, typically an upper second-class honours (or international equivalent). For PhD programmes, a Master’s degree in a relevant field with a significant research component is usually required, along with a strong academic transcript.
  • English Language Proficiency: Similar standards as for undergraduate admissions apply (e.g., IELTS 7.0 overall for many postgraduate programmes, particularly research-intensive ones, or TOEFL iBT 100).
  • Statement of Purpose/Research Proposal: Applicants for Master’s programmes submit a detailed Statement of Purpose outlining their academic interests, career goals, and reasons for pursuing postgraduate study at UBQ. For PhD programmes, a well-developed Research Proposal is essential, detailing the intended research question, methodology, and potential contribution to knowledge.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): A comprehensive CV detailing academic background, research experience, publications (if any), professional experience, and other relevant achievements.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two to three strong academic references are typically required. For professionally oriented Master’s (e.g., an MBA if offered), professional references may also be considered.
  • Interviews: Shortlisted candidates, particularly for PhD programmes and some Master’s courses, may be invited for an interview.

International Applicants

The University of Bareda Queen warmly welcomes applications from students around the world. We understand that applying from overseas can present unique challenges, and our admissions team is experienced in evaluating a wide range of international qualifications. We advise international applicants to begin their application process well in advance of deadlines to allow ample time for document preparation and any necessary assessments.
